Not sure why I never thought of this, but these people have. It’s fairly easy, but I’m just going by the looks of it and haven’t tried it yet.

Antony Hegarty

I’ve finally woken up and have come across/researched music that I had heard before, but never took the time to look more into it. I’ll start with Antony Hegarty, who if you listen to Bjork you would have heard him on her last album Volta and the song “The Bull Flame of Desire”. He has a very distinct voice and I appreciated it the first time I had heard it, but again never took the time to research him.

Recently I had heard him on a song with Hercules & Love Affair and realized I needed to find out who this guy is. Well he’s 37 year old Antony Hegarty originally from Sussex, UK, but now resides in San Jose, California. Although he has a band called Antony and the Johnsons from NYC, so I’m unsure where he resides exactly, point being his voice is amazing.

Pocket

I’ve been following this group called Pocket for about 3 or 4 years now. I first saw them play up in Carlsbad at what was then Neiman’s [now the Ocean House] and I was blown away at how good they were. I had never seen a local soul jazz band play, so I had to find out more about them. I started going to every show they played at, and even though they always played generally the same sets, the music was always amazing to listen to. I’d try to get friends to come out because explaining how good they were wasn’t enough. The friends that did come out agreed that Pocket was awesome, and the ones who didn’t come out will just never know. This is some old footage I took of Pocket playing at The Kava Lounge when they were playing there. For more info on Pocket and where they will be playing, check out their website at PocketRecords.com.

My grandmother passed away a few days ago. Something that is very new and very real to me now. I have never had anyone die in my family, or that I was close to. So to see her in the last days of her life was something that was very hard to deal with for me and the rest of the people who were close to her.

She just lived down the street from where I grew up, so I spent a lot of time with her and I was always known as “Grandmas good boy”. She used to call me that so much as a kid that I thought that it was my name for a while. She was a great Grandmother and really my only idea of a grandparent as I don’t have any contact with my fathers side of the family and my Grandfather died when I was very young from lung cancer. I have many great memories of my Grandmother. From spending hours at the mall during Christmas doing our shopping to going to the Del Mar Fair every year and eating cinnamon rolls and browsing the vendors.

She was a very special woman to many people and she will always be remembered.

I love you Grandma.

Below is an article titled Remembering Clara McGinnis that was printed in Oceanside’s North County Times newspaper a few days ago.

I seem to have lost touch with a good friend of mine since she has moved to L.A., but I check her flickr page every once in a while and see that she is still taking beautiful photographs.
